No Game For Fools: “The Pulverization of Polarization In Politico”

By
Gregory V. Boulware

Well, here we go again. It’s that time of the year. It’s that time when they seem to come out of nowhere… The game is afoot! Oh yes, the campaign.

It comes with promises and cadences of the old, and maybe a few of the new. Many of them smile at us while sneering at the perceived enemy of the people.

He or she promises to protect social security and retirement benefits. They promise to protect seniors for their decades of hard work.

“I promise access to high quality programs provided through unnecessary overregulation – we will know who to blame, and blame them!”

They promise to relentlessly oppose the millionaires in defense of the middle class.

“My team will vigorously seek to raise the minimum wage and close tax loopholes that currently let millionaires pay less in taxes than teachers, firefighters, cops, nurses, and ditch-diggers. We will also end the tax breaks for multinational corporation who ship jobs to Mexico, China, Chile, or anywhere else.”

The rhetoric rallies from, through, and all over the city and county boast “It’s time for change!” They say, “It’s time the middle class comes first – It’s time the middle class becomes America’s top priority – It’s Time…”

They will promise us how they will change and demand insurance and drug companies to pay up. They will promise to make the public school district better and listen to what teachers have to say. They promise…

An independently voiced neighborhood newspaper in Northeast Philadelphia, posted an expose questioning politico’s law enforcement selection practices.

The proverbial hoops are once again made ready for the onslaught of vernaculars, and circumcised oratories. The clouded crystal balls of probabilities and innuendoes of righteousness spill out onto the masses. The chairs, benches, and podiums are filled to capacity as are the mass campaign promises on cardboard and plastic, filling the mailboxes throughout the land. Eyes and ears are bombarded while seats are filled atop guilt laden carpets that sneeze, weep, and cry of dirt upon heaps of dirt that is swept and pilled beneath.

Make ready…for it is time once again for the improvisation of who’s gonna do it better, and from which orifice will the pollution flow? But flow it must, its election time. Who really cares..? Many!

Enter, a Northeast Philadelphia Community Newspaper. Gaseous fumes filled one of its pages with a continuing fire of racism, polarization, and political non-sequitor opinions. A dude from the ‘Rhawnhurst’ area of town wrote a letter to the paper’s editor. Page ten of the March 26, 2014 publication posted the inflammatory falsehood.

The posting boasted of how ‘Mumia Abu Jamal’ was supposed to have admitted his guilt in the shooting death of a Philadelphia Police Officer. This reporter, Admittingly (conveying every sympathy to The Mrs., the Children, and family as well as to the family of Mr. Jamal), cannot help but wonder how the wife of the deceased cop, after remarrying, is able to continue campaigning for Jamal’s execution for more than thirty years. She has every right to do so, but what is the role of the new husband? Is he okay with his wife running around with a bunch of folks, who are dead set on Jamal’s guilt, and their rampaging efforts in demanding the imprisoned man’s death? It would seem improbable, though not impossible, that such a thing would be supported by the replacement…I should say second husband.

The writer called the convicted journalist a coward. He said Jamal shot him in the face, point blank, between the eyes.

He also said that “Mumia’s guilt has been proven beyond the shadow of a doubt with numerous people having witnessed this cold-blooded murder.” The narrow-minded, mis-informed, tunnel-visioned fellow has been duped, convinced, and blinded by the ridiculously racist and biased report(s) upon which he bases his position.

According to record, Mumia Abu Jamal has vehemently denied the murder and that the so-called witnesses have been tampered with including his missing brother. The case and accusations have all been tainted and diseased with cover up tactics and time. That particular piece of truth will never come to fruition or the light of day.

This diluted complainant has also pointed out in his mis-begotten theory that President Obama’s leadership abilities are sub-level. The writer's disapproval of our Commander In Chief is flawed in his presidential decision making as well. The writer thinks ‘Debo Adegbile’ is a cop-killing supporter simply because the man did his job as a lawyer in defending a client. The client happened to be Mumia Abu Jamal, a journalist who has proven in his work, over and over, that he is a defender of the poor and down trodden.

This man, an obvious racist, has stated that our Black President “Thinks there’s nothing wrong with championing the cause of a cop killer.”

During the presidential campaign of 2008, ‘Barack Hussein Obama’ visited Philadelphia. One of his high profiled stops was the busy ‘Mayfair Diner’ on Frankford Avenue in the predominantly white and affluent section of the city. The picture of ‘Martin Luther King Jr.’ comes to mind when he marched through a similar predominantly white and affluent section in the town of Boston.

The crowd of thousands, Black, White, and all in between, came out to see him and hear him speak. After enjoying a sit down meal with the men and women, the staff and management of the Northeast eatery, they all posed for photo-shoots with him. It was just simply great. It was a great thing at a great time.

Outside the diner, traffic, of course, was at a stand-still (if any at all with the streets filled with people), the noise was deafening. A fire storm of excitement and joyful cheers continually erupted while filling the air with love, joy, and unity.

On the other side of the street, the nay-sayers who maybe stop short of calling themselves “Klansmen” or “Pro-White” with the grandeur of a slave master’s whip, jeered in protest.

They didn’t want these Blacks and other outsiders storming into their peaceful, tranquil, and “Lilly-white” neighborhood – especially the one running for the nation’s highest office. It did not matter that Philly has experienced the leadership of several Black mayors and a predominantly Black city council. It didn’t matter. They bitched and complained and jeered – they heckled “nigger go home!” We don’t want you here! This is our neighborhood – take your filth and trash back to where you live!”

Have you ever seen Frankford Avenue after a ‘Phillies,’ or ‘Eagles game,’ or ‘St. Patrick’s Day?’ Check out the neighborhood just before all the bars close…and after.

The rally, of course, was a complete and utter success. After the Obama-Rally was over, the area in question was left cleaner than it was at the beginning.

“Selective Law Enforcement and Cover Ups” are one of the worst crimes facing the city of ‘Brotherly-Love and Sisterly Affection’…and many other cities for that matter. Take a look at New Orleans. Whatever happened to Brother Ray Nagin, the city’s former two-term mayor and man of and for the people? What about Tony Mack, mayor of Trenton New Jersey, ‘a good ole boy?’ Were these guys rightfully convicted of the crimes to which they were charged? I don’t know. But I do know with so many elected officials as incumbents, and others being the recipients of endorsements and/or guaranteed victories, one has to wonder how many times have any of them escaped an investigation or prosecution?

Also included in the circular, another report suggests a federal judge publicly called out the Chief U.S. Attorney for failing to adequately assign a staff attorney so that a ‘strong-arm’ case against a particular teamsters union could more quickly proceed.

The judge apparently anticipated a troubled atmosphere. He was concerned, first and foremost, in the last few weeks; about the events surrounding an assortment of situations involving the manipulation of law enforcement that generate significant public concern in Philadelphia. A writer for this town’s major newspaper once observed its governance as “corrupt but contented.”

Another reporter observed the judge as probably knowing that the machinery within the city’s government was intricately tied up with unions. These corrupted unions who make policy and fund elections; elections and cases that are protected before they even get a ruling.

It would appear that the political machine has the power to put the brakes on certain investigations. They can do this easily when a particular case comes close to those who are currently or previously in office. Many of these elected officials as incumbents and other recipients of endorsements and/or guaranteed victories raise questions for the average voter. One has to wonder “How many times has this person gotten away with a crime?” How many times has he or she escaped legitimate investigations and prosecution?”

A self-made prosecutor, who happened to be Black, had been run out of town. She was apolitical and not from ‘Philly.’ She was simply doing the job in which she was trained to do. Well, you see, that is the last thing that anyone within that machine wanted her to do. Compounding this problem, there were multiple unanswered questions concerning the finances of several OARC projects and taxpayer funds.

One judge quoted a term of contradiction. He paraphrased the question, are we ready for “Philadelphia Justice?”

The young attorney was immediately and publicly criticized for her expertise and escalated contribution in the investigation. The so-called Black leaders personally insinuated that it was “even worse” because she was a Black person – a Black woman who is supposed to worship and treat the targeted Black City Politician as if he walked on water – as if he were a God. His views and position was supported by many of the politico’s power machine.

The young investigative attorney did no such thing. She packed her bags and moved to Ohio. There she accepted a peaceful and quiet job at a university.

The investigation, or course, came to a complete and full stop.

Now Hold On A Minute:

Another game surfaced along the way, my friends. At the state level, a colorful and recent investigation gained a number of fast, loose, and sharp turns leading to obscurity. In a clear, albeit, clandestine political pave over concerning someone called “Mr. ATM,” a tactic was used betwix “certain law enforcement types” due to a very close relationship. According to one particular report, certain politicians wished to “minimize investigative activity,” into their own affairs of state as well. If they couldn’t simply make it go away, they would “drag it out” and eventually “forget it.” It was a new program with an old politically charged governmental twist. Does this sound familiar? It’s been widely used over the years.

A special meeting was held in recognition of a spending spree. The mal-hopping venture with all its expenditures was said to have been perpetrated by one “Mr. ATM.” The planned meeting was for the direct and formal attempt to remove him and separate him from power and funds.

This move would allow the ‘business-as-usual’ time and distance needed in order to offset any investigation by sweeping it under the nearest rug. After a few preliminary inquiries, the dust mites will have had their meal while a coffin is being prepared for its final resting place – lost in a file somewhere unknown.

Upcoming elections have been a primary issue converging on Philly voters’ during the last few weeks. Several events almost always appear to merge into one. From recent months as well as the last few years never fails to get the temperature up as the electorate race gets under way.

The race in the primary elections have always proven to be somewhat comical if not predictable. Here in Philly, the election process is a virtual one party government.

Wasted money means absolutely nothing to electorate prospectors. The ideology is “There’s always more where that came from.” So why bother with worrying over compliance issues involving spending? News, at several levels either causes a person to blink uncontrollably or makes the head shake, twist, turn a complete one hundred and sixty degree turnaround, and then shrink in utter disbelief. Somewhat like that little girl in the movie, “the Exorcist.” It is the usual cynicism around town that there is no limit on how the…oops, our political establishment will use the power once acquiring and accessing the use of high office. Will they shelter just about anyone or any situation from oversight, compliance, or prosecution? It should matter who the guilty party is just as long as there is clear and compelling evidence with any form of wrong-doing.

Interestingly enough, a case recently ventured forth with the stench of selective and clandestine discretion. The newly appointed state attorney general made an outrageous decision based upon a series of investigations with clear and profoundly established violations of the law. The “Tower of Pisa” tilted to the point of; according to the naked eye, collapsing. Of course it remained standing, stiff and rigid; squashing the clear and greatly detailed documentation as opposed to making things right and doing the right thing – what you are hired and paid to do.

When challenged, a rather weak and flimsy reference to racism could be involved. The violations of law appear to be pointing fingers at our most trusted and believed in ‘Black Politicians,’ both city and state. Accordingly, withheld documentation indicates details of multiple violations involving gratuities, kick-backs, and favors abounded.

The vast majority of elected officials in this region of the state happen to be Black. For many years, this city has elected a multitude of Black individuals who are supposed to look out for – to represent the people, especially downtrodden working class and poor people who have no one to stand up for them.

Do we, the people, defend them who are supposed to defend us if they are guilty of betrayal? Some folks may point out the corruption cases spotlighting “Ray Nagin” of New Orleans, Louisiana or the ex-mayor of Trenton New Jersey, “Tony Mack” for their federal prosecution and convictions. For the most part, this reporter; not unlike Mr. Jim Foster, Editor of the Independent Voice, reporter and source for this submission; can only wonder why those who are suspected (charged or accused) will quite possibly never get their day in court? Are the dodging offenders not wishing to clear their good names, prove their innocence?

According to a political watchdog group, “The Committee of Seventy,” the newly appointed attorney general has not been setting a very high standard as proven by the recent decision to shut down the current investigation. The committee wasted no time in going public with that announcement. The demand has gone out for an outside investigation into the established corruption participants. The committee demands that the outside team be devoid of partisan slanting and a total review concerning the decision making of the attorney general. It also wants an independent report delivered unto them involving further indication that the suggested ‘shut-down’ smells bad when members of both parties have formerly announced that they want an ethics investigation of their own with the finding of members involved in bribery and extortion deals.

They also said it doesn’t look good when we’re seen or portrayed as “liars and cheats” and we are accused of cover-ups and other noteworthy scandals. One member of the state house commented on how he could not believe that one of their own would, as a result of hearing about it, readily take or become involved in such behavior. “After all, we’re not simple minded folk – we’re lawmakers.”

A memo, apparently, was dusted off by another newly appointed attorney general. The original one preceded the new appointee’s watch. But nevertheless, it was included in a file. It was an investigation file looking into how funds were utilized within Philadelphia’s political machine. The Philly political machine didn’t doddle with time. Producing its own challenge to prove them guilty of a crime, any crime proving or depriving how funds were being allocated.

Some information contained therein records how slimy deals came from one group headed by “Mr. ATM.” Two restaurants / nightclubs, a jazz festival, and a shopping plaza / strip mall were all overfunded, according to Foster’s report. It goes further to cite the projects as being out of compliance, or tainted in one way or another. The allusion further proposes there are likely many more projects of ‘Mr. ATM’ that might not pass or have not passed the smell tests should the audits ever be done or come to fruition.

Foster says there are some investigations that just need to be prioritized and taken to the public. This information would surely outrage the populace when folks are made aware of the evil vengeful tactics and practices engaged by these politicians. Imagine if you will, folks in the party intentionally and purposefully inflicting pain on someone simply because they are the opposition or stand in the way of planned for profit proceedings.’

This kind of behavior has been the standard fare by the status quo in politico for un-countless years. Julius Caesar could attest to that, like many of his predecessors and his replacement as well.

The degree level and the financial burden to the everyday, average tax payer could quite possibly be the determining factor involving who gets prosecuted and who does not. Skin color factors play a significant role in this game not designed for fools, albeit, many a foolish fool has found themselves tangled in the sticky and fatal web of avarice, power, and greed. Many have long forgotten the originality of the role they were supposed to play – for, and by the people. Many factors weigh in on whether they (the prosecutors) go away as well.

Many politicos have gone down this road to perdition…they have made that trip in recent years; White, Black, Latino, Republican, or Democrat…it doesn’t matter, death is dead; as dead as can be, perpetual hell…forever.

Ironically, there has been some infighting amongst the politicos and the prosecutors alike. How many of the targeted politicians will be met with a slap on the wrist and a free walk because they are connected to all the right people?

Election time is once again is upon us, as recent as May 20th. The power brokers in Philly, as well as the players throughout the State of Pennsylvania are looking to fill seats with individuals who are less of an independent thinker. The want team players with the spirit of being totally compliant with the agendas of lobbyists and insiders as opposed to those who think outside the box – a team player for the people – all the people!

Jim says he can see a deal happening here. Can you? What about the eight percent sales tax that was supposed to roll back last year in Philadelphia? It’s currently at eight (8%) percent. The mayor, city council, and a few other folks down there at City Hall (and beyond, i.e. the governor’s office) are pushing for another hike…to nine percent (9%). What’s to keep them from raising it up to ten (10%) percent or higher? Will you stand idly by and watch how they continue to dip their greasy little hands into our pockets? Why is the Philadelphia School District not receiving the funds needed in order to run correctly? Do you think they are trying to get it from you and me? Well, if not, what’s the tax hike for?

Don’t take the vote for granted…choose carefully; vote wisely in this election – every election.

Til Next Time…
